What does the RAADS-R measure?

The Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Scale-Revised covers four areas: social relatedness, circumscribed interests, language, and sensory-motor experiences. Its distinctive feature is the life-span answer format. Because autism is developmental, symptoms present since childhood carry different weight than ones that appeared later, and the scale scores each answer accordingly, from 0 to 3. Seventeen questions describe non-autistic experiences and are scored in reverse. The total runs from 0 to 240; in the international validation study, a cutoff of 65 separated autistic from non-autistic adults with high accuracy.

What does the result mean?

A score of 65 or above is consistent with autism and worth bringing to a professional assessment, along with the subscale profile. Keep in mind that the RAADS-R was validated in a clinical setting, completed with a clinician present, so an online result carries more uncertainty in both directions. Anxiety, trauma history, and ADHD can push scores up; heavy masking can hold them down. Treat the number as structured evidence for a conversation, not as an answer on its own.
